Writing a press release shouldn’t be a mystery, yet it’s something that a lot of startups don’t know how to do. To reveal the mystery, I’ve included my sample press release below. Feel free to copy it. Heck, share it on LinkedIn if it makes you feel better. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me:

City, STATE ABBREVIATIONS (Month Day, Year) – The first sentence should clearly say who you are, what you’re doing, and if possible; why you’re doing it now – make it punchy without marketing-speak. Use this sentence to give further details that people need to know right now. This part can’t wait for the next paragraph, it sets the stage and leaves the reader begging for more. Be sure to include a link here if you have one. By the time the reader finishes this paragraph, they will decide if they want to keep reading.
“Now here’s a great place for a meaningful quote,” said First and Last Name, Title of Company. “We like putting quotes here because it gives us a chance to have an opinion about the market or the state of this space that we’re doing this new thing in. These quotes can be quite lengthy, but only as long as they offer valuable information. Avoid marketing-speak here. It’s tempting, but avoid it. Focus, instead on how this new thing/product/announcement will help the people/market/organizations it was intended to help. Okay, now you can end the quote.”
• Bold Line Here To Draw Attention To Important Thing Number One
If your new thing/product/announcement is complicated this is a good way to list it and provide some explanation about it.
• Bold Line Here To Draw Attention To Important Thing Number Two
Of course, if you’re listing, you might as well keep listing more new things/products/announcements.
Write a conclusion here. Summarize what you’ve said and close it off with a sentence about the significance of what you are doing.

Clearly say who you are and what you do. Be sure to say how your company stands out from the competition and be specific. Include awards here and key milestones. This section should be no more than a few sentences. You may be tempted to add several paragraphs here about how amazing you are, but this isn’t the time or place.
